The collections cover Mexican art from pre-Hispanic times through the viceregal period and the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as contemporary work. Temporary exhibitions and public programs add to the permanent displays, so the mix of art and activities can vary.

The museum also has a library, a shop, Café del Museo and a terrace with a panoramic view of Puebla.
